Full mouth reconstruction is the most comprehensive treatment in modern dentistry — restoring all the teeth in both upper and lower jaws to optimal function, aesthetics and long-term stability. It combines multiple specialties (implants, periodontics, endodontics, orthodontics, cosmetic) into one coordinated treatment plan. At Art Dental Studio, full mouth reconstruction is led by Dr. Vivian Menendez with our in-house multi-specialty team: Dr. Cohen (periodontist), Dr. Ogando (endodontist), Dr. Yilian (orthodontist), and master ceramist Enrique. Because all specialties work in-house, your plan is coordinated seamlessly — no outside referrals, no incompatible recommendations between providers.

What is full mouth reconstruction?

Full mouth reconstruction (also called full mouth restoration or full mouth rehabilitation) is comprehensive treatment that addresses all the teeth in both jaws simultaneously. It is typically needed for patients with extensive tooth loss, severe wear from grinding, multiple failing restorations, advanced periodontal disease combined with cosmetic concerns, or congenital dental conditions.

A typical full mouth reconstruction at Art Dental Studio may include: dental implants for missing teeth, root canals where pulp is infected, periodontal therapy to stabilize gums and bone, crowns or onlays for damaged teeth, porcelain veneers for cosmetic improvement of front teeth, orthodontic correction for major alignment issues, and a night guard for grinding protection.

Treatment duration varies depending on the specific needs of each patient. During your free consultation, we will evaluate your case and give you a personalized treatment plan with an accurate timeline. The investment is significant but the result is a complete, healthy, beautiful smile that lasts decades.

The Process

Full mouth reconstruction process

  1. 01

    Free initial consultation

Dr. Vivian Menendez evaluates your overall dental and medical health, takes comprehensive photographs and 3D imaging, and assesses the scope of work needed.

  2. 02

    Comprehensive diagnosis

Multi-specialty evaluation: periodontist (gum/bone), endodontist (pulp health), orthodontist (bite/alignment), cosmetic dentist (final aesthetic plan). Records include 3D cone-beam CT, facial photographs, digital scans, bite analysis.

  3. 03

    Treatment plan presentation

You receive a complete written plan with: sequence of procedures, timeline, materials, pricing for each phase, insurance breakdown, and financing options. Most patients take 1-2 weeks to review and decide.

  4. 04

    Phase 1: Stabilization

Treatment of any urgent issues — periodontal therapy, extractions of non-restorable teeth, root canals on infected teeth, bone grafts in preparation for implants. The goal: stop active disease and establish a healthy foundation.

  5. 05

    Phase 2: Reconstruction

Implant placement and osseointegration, orthodontic correction (if needed), permanent restoration of all teeth with crowns/bridges/veneers. Enrique fabricates all prosthetics in-house for color consistency.

  6. 06

    Phase 3: Aesthetic refinement

Final cosmetic work — porcelain veneers on visible teeth, gum recontouring if needed, professional whitening of any remaining natural teeth to match new restorations.

  7. 07

    Phase 4: Maintenance and protection

Custom night guard to protect from grinding (essential for longevity), maintenance cleaning schedule every 3-4 months for first year, then every 6 months. Annual check-ups with Dr. Vivian to monitor all restorations.

Recovery & Aftercare

Recovery throughout the process

Full mouth reconstruction is staged over months, so there is no single "recovery period" — each phase has its own recovery. Surgical phases (implant placement, periodontal surgery, bone grafts) typically involve 3-7 days of moderate discomfort and soft diet. Restorative phases (crowns, veneers) have minimal recovery — usually back to normal eating the same day.

During the months between major phases, you wear temporary restorations that look and function nearly identical to the final result. You never go without a complete smile. Most patients continue working and social activities throughout treatment.

Once treatment is complete, the result is a fully restored, healthy smile that should last 20-30+ years with proper maintenance. The biggest predictors of long-term success are: wearing your night guard consistently, maintaining cleaning schedule, and protecting against further grinding/clenching.

Each phase has its own discomfort level. Surgical phases (implants, bone grafts, periodontal surgery) typically involve 3-7 days of moderate discomfort managed with prescribed medication. Restorative phases (crowns, veneers) have minimal pain — most patients return to normal activities same-day. Sedation is available for longer surgical appointments.

Yes — this is why having master ceramist Enrique in-house matters so much. He hand-crafts every porcelain restoration to match your facial proportions, skin tone and personal aesthetic. The most common feedback from our patients is that the result looks "like me, but better" rather than artificial.

Yes — you wear comfortable temporary restorations between visits. Modern temporaries look and function nearly identical to the final result. You can eat, work, smile and socialize normally throughout treatment. Most patients say the temporary phase is the most surprising part — they expected to feel toothless and instead feel completely normal.

With proper maintenance — night guard for grinding protection, regular 3-6 month cleanings, daily home care — full mouth reconstructions at Art Dental Studio typically last 20-30+ years. Implants often last a lifetime. Crowns and veneers may need replacement after 15-25 years. The biggest predictor of longevity is wearing your night guard consistently.

Bruxism (grinding) is the #1 cause of premature failure in major dental work. Even patients who don't think they grind often do so during deep sleep. A custom night guard distributes bite forces evenly and protects your restorations from cracking. Wearing it nightly typically adds 5-10 years to the lifespan of crowns and veneers.
