Your first visit.
What happens step by step.
- 01
Before your visit
Our team will reach out to confirm your appointment details and answer any questions before you arrive. Bring photo ID, insurance card and a list of current medications.
- 02
Arrival & welcome
Plan to arrive 10 minutes early. You'll meet our front-desk team, finish any remaining paperwork, and we'll review your insurance. Tell us if you have dental anxiety — we adjust the visit (longer appointment, slower pace, breaks during treatment).
- 03
Medical history review
We review your medical history together and ask a few clarifying questions about medications, allergies, recent surgeries, pregnancy status, heart conditions, diabetes or autoimmune disorders.
- 04
Digital X-rays
Unless you bring recent X-rays from another dentist, we take digital X-rays (far less radiation than older film X-rays). These show what isn't visible: cavities between teeth, infections at root tips, bone level.
- 05
Photographs & intraoral scan
We take photos and (often) a 3D digital scan of your mouth. These become your permanent record and enable treatment planning later.
- 06
Periodontal evaluation
A registered hygienist measures pockets around each tooth (1-3mm is healthy; 4+ mm indicates gum disease) and checks for bleeding, plaque and inflammation.
- 07
Doctor's exam
Your dentist examines all teeth, your bite, TMJ function, existing dental work, and performs an oral cancer screening (visual + tactile).
- 08
Cleaning (if scheduled)
Your hygienist removes plaque and calculus, polishes the teeth, and reviews your home care technique. If your gums show signs of periodontal disease, we may recommend a deeper cleaning at a future visit.
- 09
Treatment plan discussion
You leave with a written treatment plan covering what we found, what's urgent vs. what can wait, options for each finding, insurance coverage, and realistic timing and cost. No pressure to commit that day.
