Most dental practices in Miami outsource their porcelain work. Veneers, crowns and bridges are designed in the office, then shipped to outside laboratories where technicians who have never met the patient craft the final pieces from a shade tab and a mold. The result is the "veneer smile" — porcelain that's technically correct but doesn't quite belong to the individual face: too opaque, too uniform, too white.
Enrique is the reason Art Dental Studio is different. Every porcelain veneer, every crown, every bridge is hand-crafted on-site in our in-house ceramic lab. Enrique works directly from photographs, 3D scans and, often, face-to-face meetings with the patient. He matches each piece to the patient's skin tone, facial proportions, eye color, lip line and personal aesthetic — details a distant lab never sees.
How a hand-made veneer is actually built: it isn't cast in one shot. Enrique layers fine ceramic powders — dentin, enamel and translucent incisal porcelains — and fires each layer in a porcelain oven, building up color and depth the way a natural tooth is built up in life. Then he characterizes the surface: micro-texture, subtle color variation from gumline to edge, and the faint translucency at the biting edge that makes real enamel catch the light. Finally he stains and glazes. A single front veneer can pass through the oven several times before it's right.
This is where in-house wins in ways an outside lab structurally can't. Because Enrique is in the building, he can see the patient's teeth in natural light, adjust a shade the same day, and — critically — keep color and character consistent across every tooth in the smile, because one artist makes them all. When veneers for a full smile come back from a mass lab assembled by different hands, the eye notices. When they come from one ceramist, they read as one face.
Enrique works shoulder-to-shoulder with Dr. Vivian Menendez on every smile design case. He's present in the planning phase, builds the wax-up and trial smile, and refines the porcelain based on how the temporaries actually look on the patient before crafting the finals. Why do some porcelain veneers look fake?
Usually because they were mass-produced by an outside lab to a template — one bright shade, opaque, uniform, and sized to a mold instead of a face. Hand-layered porcelain, matched to your own enamel and characterized with real texture and translucency, doesn't read as "veneers." The difference is who makes them and whether they ever saw you.

How is a porcelain veneer actually made?
